California Man Accused of Executing Wife with AR-15 in Front of Teen Son Allegedly Told Police She Was “Cheating”

Chilling police report reveals confession, domestic violence history, and a 15-year-old forced to witness his mother’s killing

A harrowing domestic murder case out of California is drawing national attention after investigators revealed disturbing new details about the moments leading up to a fatal shooting witnessed by a teenage boy. A 37-year-old man is accused of killing his wife with an AR-15 inside their home, then allegedly telling police he did it because he believed she had been unfaithful.

Ana Karen Robles, 37, of Bakersfield, California, allegedly shot by her husband, Manuel Robles

Authorities say the case exposes a violent pattern of domestic abuse, alcohol-fueled rage, and a child placed in unimaginable danger.

Alleged Murder Inside the Family Home

According to court records and an extensive police report, Manuel Leal Robles is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Ana Karen Robles, 37.

The killing occurred on Nov. 26 inside the family’s home in Bakersfield. Investigators allege Robles shot his wife multiple times with an AR-15 while their 15-year-old son was present.

Robles has pleaded not guilty and is currently being held without bail.

Teen Son’s Account Described in Police Report

An 86-page police report details an interview with the couple’s teenage son, who told officers that both parents had been drinking heavily that night and began arguing as tensions escalated.

The boy said he tried to intervene and entered the bedroom, where he allegedly found his mother curled in the fetal position on the bed while his father stood over her pointing a handgun.

According to the report, Robles initially fired several shots into a safe in the bedroom before leaving the room. He later returned holding an AR-15, allegedly saying, “This is what happens when you cheat,” before opening fire on his wife.

After the Shooting: A Desperate and Dangerous Scene

Following the shooting, the son told investigators that his father placed the gun barrel in his own mouth but did not pull the trigger. The teen then reportedly wrestled the weapon away and threw it over a fence.

Fearing his father might harm himself with kitchen knives, the boy followed Robles into the kitchen and struggled to remove the knives from his reach. Robles then fled the home in his truck, according to police.

Arrest and Alleged Confession

Officers later located Robles at a shopping center roughly two miles from the home, where he was arrested. Body-worn camera footage reportedly captured several “spontaneous statements” Robles made after being taken into custody.

“I f—ed up, my wife cheated on me and I f—ed up,” Robles allegedly told officers.

“She made a mistake and I killed her for it,” he allegedly added, while also stating that Ana “didn’t deserve that.”

History of Violence and Jealousy Alleged

In follow-up interviews, the teenage son told investigators his parents fought frequently, particularly when his father drank. He claimed Robles would punch walls during arguments.

Police say Robles believed he discovered his wife’s alleged affair about a month earlier. According to the report, he allegedly asked his sister to surveil Ana, and the sister later claimed she saw Ana with another man.

Charges and Next Steps

In addition to first-degree murder, Robles is charged with willful cruelty to a child and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant. He is currently being held at the Lerdo Justice Facility.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 11. Information about legal representation was not immediately available.

A Case That Raises Broader Alarms

The case has sparked renewed concern about domestic violence, firearms access, and the devastating psychological toll on children who witness family violence. Investigators emphasized that the teenage son’s actions may have prevented further harm, even as he endured trauma no child should face.

As the legal process unfolds, prosecutors are expected to rely heavily on the son’s testimony, forensic evidence, and Robles’ alleged on-camera statements. The outcome could have significant implications for how domestic violence cases involving high-powered firearms are prosecuted in California.

For now, a 15-year-old is left without his mother, and a community is grappling with the brutal reality of a crime rooted in jealousy, alcohol, and unchecked violence.
