What Authorities Have Confirmed So Far
Police responding to multiple welfare check calls on December 30 discovered the bodies of Spencer Tepe, 37, and his wife Monique Tepe, 39, inside their Columbus, Ohio home.
According to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, the apparent cause of death for both Spencer and Monique Tepe was gunshot wounds. However, officials emphasized that final determinations will not be made until additional examinations, including toxicology reports, are completed.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and their deaths are being investigated as homicides.
Children Found Alive Inside the Home
One of the most haunting elements of the case is that the couple’s two young children were found alive and physically unharmed inside the house.
A friend who arrived at the residence before police told 911 dispatchers that he could hear the children crying from inside but was unable to gain entry. Dispatch audio captured the urgency of the moment, with the caller reporting that at least one child appeared to be yelling.
Police later confirmed that the children were safely removed from the home following the discovery.
How the Welfare Check Turned Into a Homicide Investigation
The investigation began when a concerned coworker of Spencer Tepe contacted police after he failed to show up for work, something described as completely out of character.

The coworker also reported being unable to reach Monique, raising immediate alarm. Friends arrived at the house shortly afterward, leading to the frantic 911 call and subsequent police response.
Once inside, officers discovered both adults deceased.
Conflicting Early Reports Remain Unconfirmed
Previous local reporting suggested Spencer may have suffered multiple gunshot wounds while Monique was shot once in the chest. The coroner’s office has not confirmed those specific details and has referred all inquiries back to the Columbus Division of Police.
Investigators have not released information regarding the weapon involved, possible points of entry, or a timeline of events leading up to the killings.
A Community in Mourning
Family members described Spencer and Monique Tepe as loving, generous people deeply committed to their family and community.
In a statement shared with the media by Spencer’s brother-in-law, the family said the couple’s lives were “rooted in love” and filled with joy and connection to others. The statement added that the family is devastated and determined to see justice served.
A GoFundMe campaign has since been established to support the couple’s two children as the investigation continues.
