Alleged Devil’s Den Killer Turns Himself Into an Unsettling Chameleon in Custody

In a case that has captured national attention, 28-year-old Andrew James McGann, the former Arkansas teacher accused of brutally killing a couple in front of their two young daughters at Devil’s Den State Park, has drawn eyes not just for the crime itself but for his baffling transformation of appearances since his arrest.

McGann’s series of dramatic makeovers — from a wild, curly hairstyle likened to “broccoli,” to a slick ’90s-inspired parted look reminiscent of a movie heartthrob, to a clean-cut courtroom style, and most recently a rugged “grizzly man” beard — has become almost as talked about as the shocking double homicide he’s charged with.

Authorities say McGann allegedly admitted to murdering Clinton and Cristen Brink, both in their early 40s, during a July 2025 hike, stabbing them to death in front of their 7- and 9-year-old daughters. Despite his confessions, McGann has entered not guilty pleas to two counts of capital murder, and his defense continues to investigate new evidence as the case unfolds, with court proceedings pushed to an April 1 date.

The victims’ children escaped unharmed and are now with relatives, but the haunting nature of the crime and McGann’s seemingly shape-shifting persona since his arrest have only added to the community’s unease — raising questions about motive, identity, and how a trusted teacher could allegedly lash out with such irrevocable violence.
