Zoe Ball has confessed she’d be thrilled to take the reins as a presenter on Strictly. The 55 year old TV and radio personality has been tipped for one of the two vacant hosting spots after Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly bid farewell to the show at the end of the last series.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, Zoe said in a four-word response that she would “love to do it”. The presenter said: “Obviously there’s part of me that would love to do it. But I will still be watching, whoever hosts it.”

With her extensive Strictly experience, having hosted spin-off show It Takes Two for a decade and even filling in as the main show’s host for a few weeks in 2014, she’s definitely a strong contender.

Zoe, who finished third in series three as a contestant in 2005 with pro partner Ian Waite, recently left her BBC Radio 2 show and was succeeded by Emma Willis. When quizzed about the Strictly hosting gig, she joked: “This is the hilarious thing, it’s all anyone talks to me about.”

The presenter added: “At the moment I am in mourning for Tess and Claud because I love those girls. I think everyone’s name is being thrown into the mix.”

She also heaped praise on the show, saying: “I love that show. I loved performing on it with Ian Waite, who is one of my best buddies.”

Acknowledging the challenges of hosting live TV, Zoe noted: “It’s so joyful, and it’s live telly, which is another thing that people don’t give the girls enough credit for. That show is a beast. Whoever gets to do it has a tough act to follow.”

Zoe revealed that she hadn’t discussed the role with the BBC, nor had any of her friends, but expressed a preference for either Rylan Clark or Vernon Kay to join her as co-host.

The presenter made history as the first woman to fly solo on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show when her co-host Kevin Greening exited in 1998.

Zoe’s presenting portfolio also includes Top Of The Pops, from 1996 to 1998, Live And Kicking, from 1996 to 1999, and SMart, from 1994 to 1996.
